Christianity under attack worldwide:
from Nigeria to India and China

28 April 2026

The Universal Christian Church of the New Jerusalem raises her voice in condemnation of the multifaceted persecution targeting believers in Christ across the globe. Reports emerging over the past few days from India, Nigeria, and China portray a dramatic situation.

In central India, approximately forty extremists assaulted two Christians during a prayer meeting. On 27 April, they were subsequently accused of proselytization. Controversial anti-conversion laws remain in full force in several Indian states.

On the evening of 26 April 2026, gunmen stormed the home of Reverend Ayuba Choji in Nigeria’s Plateau State, massacring his entire family: the pastor himself, his wife Chundung, their son Cyril, and their young daughter Endurance.

In Guangzhou, China, the authorities have intensified pressure on the Eternal Foundation Church after raiding it on 12 April and deporting an American Christian couple who had resided in the country for thirty years. Two elderly congregants, Li Yangbo and Xiong Zhuo — who were due to be released on 27 April 2026 — are still being held in solitary confinement and now face potential criminal indictment.

Three continents, three distinct manifestations of the same persecution: wherever Christians are an inconvenient minority, the Gospel is still perceived as a threat to be silenced through violence, imprisonment and death.

The Church offers prayers and expresses her heartfelt solidarity with the brothers and sisters who are persecuted throughout the world, fervently petitioning the Lord to sustain them in their faith. The persecution of Christians is not a distant issue: it is an open wound on the conscience of the entire world.

You will be hated by all men on account of my name;
but the man who stands firm to the end will be saved”
(Mt 10:22)
