The Universal Christian Church of the New Jerusalem denounces a new massacre perpetrated against Christians in Taraba State, Nigeria, occurring a mere forty-eight hours after Governor Agbu Kefas assured national and international dignitaries of the security situation in his State.

On 20 April, in the Takum district, Fulani jihadist militiamen hacked to death with machetes a married couple, Aondoungwa and Kpeibee, as they were making their way to the fields. A few hours later, Terver Shaapera and Martina Ityav, likewise caught along the path to the fields, fell under the militiamen’s blows. The following day, in the village of Tyo-Jande, another woman was killed while going to work.

The jarring discrepancy between official assurances and the daily reality of these communities reveals an unacceptable truth: the Christians of the Nigerian Middle Belt are left to fend for themselves, while the extermination proceeds amidst institutional indifference.

The Church stands in solidarity through love and prayer with the families of the victims, the displaced, and all Christians enduring daily persecution. The Church forcefully urges the international community to confront an increasingly evident reality: a genocide of Christians is unfolding in Nigeria, a genocide that can no longer be downplayed or ignored.
