“Nigeria:
The Ongoing Massacre of Christians”

The Universal Christian Church of the New Jerusalem raises her voice in profound grief and indignation over the relentless massacres targeting Christians in Nigeria. Reports emerging in recent weeks reveal the harrowing reality of a fierce and unyielding persecution.

On 5 March, Boko Haram terrorists raided the Christian town of Ngoshe, in Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State, resulting in the massacre of approximately 200 people. Furthermore, over 300 civilians – predominantly women and children – were abducted. All the churches and schools in the town were set on fire.

Armed militias have intensified their attacks on Christian villages in the Chanchanji district along the border between the states of Taraba and Benue. On 9 March 2026, four people were killed in Peva and Sangambe, including a mother and her newborn child. The toll is devastating: over 90,000 faithfuls have been displaced, more than 200 villages and churches destroyed, and eight Catholic parishes forced to close.

The Church stands in solidarity with the bereaved families, invoking the consolation of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit upon those who are experiencing this profound grief, and urges the international community not to remain silent in the face of this massacre.
