PONTIFICAL DECREE

Establishment of the Solemn Feast
of the Most Holy Name of Jesus

PREFACE

The Name of Jesus is salvation. ‘God saves’ is His Name. There are many healings and miraculous signs recorded throughout history that were obtained by invoking the Name of Jesus, as recounted in the Gospels.
These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his Name” (Jn 20:31).
Whoever believes in him is not condemned; but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because they have not believed in the Name of the only Son of God” (John 3:18).
All must be baptised in the Name of Jesus for the remission of every sin (Acts 2:38).
In the Name of Jesus “every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Phil 2:10–11).
