PONTIFICAL DECREE

Establishment of the Solemn Triduum
of Mary Assumed into Heaven
and Universal Co-Redemptrix

PREFACE

  1. The Solemn Feast of August 15, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, was officially established by Pope Pius XII who, on November 1, 1950, proclaimed the Assumption of Mary Most Holy into Heaven, body and soul, as a dogma of faith. Mary, by the special grace that God the Father Almighty reserved for her as a reward for her tireless willingness to accept the Will of Heaven, her immeasurable love and her unwavering fidelity to the Divine Plan, was taken up into Heaven in body and soul to be reunited with her Son and crowned Queen of Heaven and Earth.

  2. By Pontifical Decree of December 22, 2019, I proclaimed the dogma of Mary Most Holy as Universal Co-Redemptrix, establishing that the Feast dedicated to her would also be celebrated on 15 August. Mary is the one who crushed and will crush the head of the serpent (Gen 3,15). Mary is the one who participated and participates fully in the Mission of Redemption of her Son (Rev 12). Mary, by divine grace, is Co-Redemptrix (Lk 1,49) and as such has within herself the power, just like her Son, to save (Pontifical Decree ‘In Mary, with Mary and through Mary’, 22/12/2019).

  3. In order to allow the sons of God to live to the full the solemn Feast of Mary Most Holy Assumed into Heaven and Universal Co-Redemptrix, the Feast of feasts for all sons who, taking Mary’s hand, want to be saved, the Feast that Heaven has decreed to be ‘The second most beautiful feast’ (Revelation of Jesus to Maria G. Norcia, ‘The Three Most Beautiful Feasts’, 28/08/1994), I establish that the Feast shall be celebrated, in extended form, from the 15th to the 17th of August, in a Triduum of Solemn Feast.

I DECREE
that the Solemn Feast of Mary Assumed into Heaven
and Universal Co-Redemptrix
shall be celebrated in extended form,
from August 15 to August 17.
