The virtue of Simplicity

Meditation of the day of Pontiff Samuel

(Draft)

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Today I want to meditate, with you, on the virtue of Simplicity which is one of the virtues that characterised the life of the Maiden of God, Maria Giuseppina Norcia, and which must characterise all those who wish to be true handmaids of Mary, wanting to imitate to perfection all Her virtues in order to become many little Marys.

The virtue of Simplicity, which must not be confused with naivety, helps us to remain children in heart so to live our daily life in a simple and light way, not allowing the mind to take the upper hand over our heart, avoiding being overwhelmed by the worries of the everyday life or to be burdened by all that is worldly.

Those who want to embody the virtue of Simplicity, know no malice or vainglory, longing for purity with all their might, loving humility and modesty, wanting to put the will and the Word of God into practice in a direct and effective manner, so that their speech may be as Jesus teaches us: “Yes, when we mean yes and no, when we mean no“.

The virtue of Simplicity is therefore closely related to the virtue of Purity and must be united to the virtues of Humility, Obedience, Prudence and Righteousness, in order to be irreprehensible and upright before the world and before all those who live in sin and perversion, in malice and vainglory, in arrogance and haughtiness. That is why Jesus teaches us to be cunning as serpents and simple as doves in order to face and overcome, with these weapons, every adversity and every son of iniquity.

Those who are simple are more capable of accepting God’s Word, that finds fertile ground so that they may bear much fruit, because in the hearts of the simple, the Words of the Master take shape and soon bear fruit, just as the Word of Jesus bore fruit in the Heart of His Maiden, making Her shine in Her authentic Simplicity.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
