In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Beloved sons, friends, dear faithful, today we live this event with a living, true and intense joy. My heart rejoices because every time we honour Mary, we celebrate our Mother, She who spiritually regenerated us to be one in Christ the Lord, the Only-Begotten Son of God, the One and Triune God.
On this day we honour Mary Most Holy appeared in Lourdes, a remote place at that time, outcast from what was considered the civilised world. Mary appeared there. And what was to be discarded for the world, has blossomed in Mary. By Her fragrance, Mary has pervaded not just the humble grotto of Massabielle in Lourdes but also many hearts that have rushed over time to honour the Mother of God, to invoke Her grace, and to thus receive spiritual and corporal graces.
Mary, by means of a young handmaid with a pure and ready heart, has revolutionised that world, breaking the unbelief and the living hardness of so many hearts, going against the barrier of science and human rationality, crushing it.
Whosoever trusts in He who is Almighty by His own nature – Jesus – and whosoever trusts in She who is Almighty by grace – Mary – can do everything. This is why the anniversary of today spurs us to love Mary even more, thus to reach the plenitude, entrusting and seeking refuge in Her Immaculate Heart. This is it. This is the point: Mary the Immaculate. She appeared in Lourdes to bestow not only Her miraculous water, which overcomes every human logic and rationality, healing what for the world is incurable; but above all to confirm the faith of Her sons, so that all Christians might and may believe, deepen and live the Mystery of the Immaculate Conception of She who is conceived without the stain of original sin; of She who therefore was conceived in the mind of the Father before time was, before sin entered the world. This is the highest point of what happened at Lourdes at that time, in one great connection that ploughs history reaching our days. In fact, the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception (promulgated in 1854) is united with the Dogma of the Assumption of Mary into Heaven (promulgated in 1950) to then culminate in the Dogma of Mary Coredemptrix, promulgated in this Church on 22nd December 2019.
Here is the Mystery of Mary unveiling more and more. A Mystery that is reflected in the Trinitarian Mystery of God, so to contain it and at the same time manifest it.
Mary is the House where the Triune God has chosen to dwell and then manifest Himself to the whole world. Mary is the Immaculate Tabernacle chosen by the Father before time was, so that the Son could take human form and become flesh, the essence of the Father who manifests His substance. He who loves the Triune God, loves Mary, in an unbreakable Love. No one can separate what God the Father has united over time. Now we are living the fulfilment of history and all Christians and all men and women of good will are to open their hearts and minds to allow the Holy Spirit to operate so that everyone may contain the uncontainable Thought of the Father, just as Mary did, She who so widely opened her pure and Immaculate Heart to welcome the Word descended from Heaven allowing Him to dwell in Her heart. In the same way, each one of us, on Her example, is called to clear our hearts from every human thought in order to welcome and enshrine the divine thought, which must be embraced not only ‘by faith’ but above all ‘with faith’. A strong and living faith, like that of Mary, who always remained faithful to the Father, never thinking that God could deceive Her.
Mary is an itinerary that has to be loved and savoured. The more we love Her, the more we live Her. And the more we live Her along this journey of faith and love, the more we love Her, in a crescendo, in a vortex of love that has no end. Mary is the faithful Bride, who marries again to the holy Bridegroom. Mary is the Mother Church, generating and regenerating Her sons in the true and authentic faith in Christ the Lord. Mary is the New Jerusalem, the fulfilment of the Father’s promises.
Beloved sons and faithful, have faith. Close your eyes and open your hearts so to love Mary to perfection. Be you eternally in love with Mary. Love the Immaculate of the Holy Spirit and don’t be afraid. Never be discouraged. Never let yourselves be overcome by despondency. Call upon Mary and entrust your everything to Her Immaculate Heart. Our Mother never fails and will never fail in succouring us promptly, flooding us with Her balm of love. Anyone who wants to be strong should practise holy patience, by entrusting ourselves totally to the Father’s will, placing our good will in all we do every day, whatever small or big as it may be. Through constancy and perseverance, the Immaculate has won, awaiting the fulfilment of God’s time, with confidence and certainty in His promises. By uniting ourselves to Her Heart, we will win, all together. Baby Jesus came down here to win and to make us win, not to succumb. Let us remain united in prayer and in the living and full brotherhood and nothing will be lacking. In Mary, with Mary and for Mary.
